As this website has grown, much to my surprise, artist submissions have trickled in here and there. When I started all of this, the intent was to discover new music and to start photographing shows. In that, I discovered I enjoyed writing about new music as much as I enjoy photography, and I've enjoyed helping up and coming artists with a mention.
The latest e-mail submission is from an unsigned female-fronted electronic rock band from London, Senopia. The band consists of the songwriting duo of Finnish vocalist Pia Berg and bassist/guitarist/synth player Andrew Brassleay, along with guitarist Rich Williams and Austrian drummer David Hippel. Their debut LP, Modern Squalor is available now, and was mixed and mastered by two industry pros responsible for works from Muse, Noah and the Wale, Bjork, The xx, and Sigur Ros.
This is a polished band, ready for the next step. Listening to Andromeda, Pia's vocal delivery reminds me of Florence Welch, big and commanding, it fills all the spaces. Fans of Florence + The Machine will certainly not want to miss this act.
The second song on their Soundcloud page, Belong, is a straight forward feel good alternative rock song with soaring vocals, and feels as if it should be playing during the credits of an indie movie.
