When I first heard Royal Blood, I couldn't believe they were just a 2 piece band, and that the 2-piece was just bass and drums. This is heavy rock and roll, primal and confident with a nasty edge, mastered by the Brighton based band who've stormed out of the gates with bruising riffs and devastating drums. Deftly weaving through so many genres -- blues, rock, grunge, and metal -- their lineage is easy work. Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, and in some respects, The White Stripes and The Black Keys show up in the DNA.
Their eponoymous debut LP is out today, my copy was delivered minutes ago. I've heard a good portion of it from an earlier EP and a few singles, so, I know what I am getting, but, I am anxious to hear what they've filled the rest of the album with. If I can find the time, I'll review it, that's a big if because my backlog of albums I want to review is laughable. Listen to my favorite, Come On Over, the 2nd track on the LP, below.
