You know, I really don't like country music, but I really like what Sturgill Simpson is doing. Vocally, he's a dead ringer for Waylon Jennings, and cooks up some really great sounding outlaw country tunes with a lyrical modern spin. But while I say that, some of his lyrics would make him "out there" back then. Perhaps that's why I like him.
Even though I grew up in the South, country music never clicked with me. An occasional song here and there is nice. Johnny Cash's I Walk the Line might just be my favorite song ever, and has been for most of my life. I even have the original vinyl LP hanging on the wall. But, I skip country if at all possible.
Anyway, I've regained the use of my right ear thanks to the Ear Popper , and I can hear again. Today at work, I listened to albums by Amanda X, The Debauchees and Sturgill. With Sturgill, I could hardly make it to the second song because I wanted to hear Turtles again and again. Listen below, but also go check out the wonderful lyrics to the song here. So many spiritual truths bundled up in the song.
