Dabbling with perfection is often an ill advised prospect. Very often, it doesn't end well, ruining what made it so endearing in the first place. I'm hoping that's not the case with the deluxe version of Angel Olsen's 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness'.
With 5 new songs to present, Angel decided to tack them on to her latest work, just about the most perfect album made this year, instead of an end of the year EP. But, you're not going to catch me complaining about new music from Angel, at all.
Top to bottom, there's not a dull moment on the original, and when live, the songs take on a different life. Angel's vocal delivery is nothing short of mesmerizing, angelic in spots, and the stories of her thousand yard stare are very true, even when in a venue packed out at 200 people. Earlier this year, I saw her at the Bottletree Cafe in Birmingham and was one of the best performances I'd seen this year. I have the chance to see her again, this time in Nashville November 12th, but it is a mid-week show 2 hours away. It might be tough to swing it, but I'm going to give it a lot of thought.
Anyway, enough of my wandering discourse, just this week, Angel announced the expanded/deluxe edition of 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness' would be released November 18th on Jagjaguwar Records. Since I own the CD, and not really up for another disk of the same tunes, I'll just buy the digital copies of the new tunes. The first of the new songs is the slow burning 'All Right Now', and it is as perfect as anything on the original cut of the album. Because of that, it is the Aimless Skylarking Song of the Day.
