What a year Chvrches have had. Since releasing their debut album, 'The Bones of What You Believe', last September, the band has gone from tiny "rooms" to headlining festivals. It's all been a meteoric rise, one I've enjoyed watching. I saw them last year, December 1st to be exact, at the Exit/In in Nashville just as the band was building a head of steam, and was mesmerized by the performance. Not only for their energy, but also for their nervously erudite stage banter. The Exit/In is an institution in Nashville, hosting many up and coming bands over its 40 year life, but it is relatively small with only enough room for 500. That night, it was sold out, and I fear that will be the last time I see them in a venue of that size.
After the show, many dedicated fans stuck around in hopes of meeting the band for a photo or autograph, but since it was a work night and home was 90 minutes away, I left after we were told that Lauren and Iain had been whisked away for a flight to Seattle. Martin was still there, and came out a bit later, but, I'd already left.
The highlight of the show was Martin's performance of 'Under the Tide', the dance totally made it. Now we all have a video for the song. It's my Song of the Day, watch it below.
