The first of our ten Top Prospects for 2015 is Nashville's 4-piece garage rock outfit, Bully. The band is a serious buzz band right now. They've been featured on just about every major music website over the past month, and now other blogs are finding their sound hard to resist. As a matter of fact, this year has been a busy big year for the band -- CMJ, SXSW, ACL, Bonnaroo, a mini tour with Benjamin Booker, and a fall tour with Drowners would make many a band jealous. The band is being heard by lots of people, and they're taking advantage of the opportunity.
We here at Aimless Skylarking are fans of the band, and are excited to see what 2015 holds for them. We've seen the band twice, opening for Benjamin Booker in Memphis with about 25 people total in the venue, and then in a near capacity room in Atlanta's famed Masquerade club when they opened for Drowners. In Atlanta, the band added a 4th band member (former bassist for Pujol) to play lead guitar, and expanded on their set, performing enough songs to fill an album while winning over a young crowd with their infectious punky melodies. Frontwoman Alicia Bognanno sold a lot of Bully t-shirts that night to a crowd who wasn't quite sure what to expect.
After the Atlanta show, we spoke with Alicia for a few moments about what was next for the band. She said they were working on a full length and it should be ready in a short time, intimating an early 2015 release. Photos on the band's Instagram prove that work is almost finished on the album, 14 days with 7 days remaining. As far as content, we'd have to imagine that their EP would be part of the new LP, but cannot say for sure, although a full slate of new songs would certainly be a true treat. After a bit of research, it appears the band has signed a record deal (StarTime International a branch of Columbia Records) and hired a publicist, rightfully so on both. We think 2015 will be a big year for the band, and they are our 1st Top Prospect for 2015.
