Seems like the last few days have been for reaching back and sharing music I'd just gotten too busy to work into the schedule. Today's offering is no exception. I first became aware of the Philadelphia based band Sheer Mag late in the summer compliments of friends at Don't Need No Melody. As I've said before, they've got a wide reach and seem to cover bands months before anyone else. Then, Gold Flake Paint, another website with a knack for covering bands long before anyone else, reminded me of the band a few weeks later. To seal the deal, one of my favorite artists, Pujol offered up another reminder a few weeks after that when he played a show with the band. But, I was in an extremely overwhelmed state at the time because of our end of the year lists. Bookmarked and forgotten.
So, here we are now, free of that end of the year lists struggle, and ready to share a band I know little about but are mesmerized with, Philadelphia based Sheer Mag. When I listened to the lead track from their debut EP, 'Hard Lovin', I was reminded of the sounds coming from aunt's turntable in the late 70's. It's barroom rock and roll at its finest -- dirty, sweaty and looking for something physical, you can figure that out, but they both start with an 'F'. The sound is big, bold, and damn exciting. Dripping with attitude, yet it's also fun at the same time. I'm off to listen to some more, stream 'Hard Lovin' below, it's my Song of the Day!
