New York City based artist Hannah Cohen is a new discovery to me. Up until a few days ago, I'd not had the chance to listen to her work. Sure, I'd seen her name and face on a few blogs in the past few years, but I'd not listened. That, turns out was a mistake. Not only does she have a fantastic voice, she has a way with affairs of the heart. The 1st single from her upcoming LP, Pleasure Boy, on Bella Union Records is the splendid 'Keepsake', a twisted tale of the other woman. Hannah doesn't settle for a dull rehashing of a centuries old lament though, when she sings, she makes it important by speaking from the dark recesses of her heart. Who doesn't want to know who and why? We're never truly over the one who pierced our soft underbelly and fled as we tumbled into the abyss of loneliness and despair, but Hannah can certainly shed some light on it all during our time of need.
Pleasure Boy is out March 30th 2015, stream 'Keepsake' below, it's my Song of the Day!
