Funny story, earlier this year, I ordered Chorusgirl's 'New Moon' single from Odd Box Records. And the typical pressing delays occurred, vinyl is popular these days, and then the weirdest shipping delay kept it out of my hands for months. Somehow the package got sent to Malaysia because when I finally received it months later, "Missent to Malaysia" was stamped in tiny letters on the cardboard mailer. That's a far cry from Alabama, so, perhaps one day, we'll get to hear a Chorusgirl track inspired by the long journey her single took. Or maybe some merch stamped with the phrase...hey, just throwing ideas out there!
Anyway, months back, I was mesmerized by the band's decidedly 80's touch when I heard 'No Moon' for the 1st time. Having spent my formative music listening days during that time, I was overcome with nostalgia and was swept back to those awkward days when music meant so much to me. It was an escape, and a lifeline -- bringing joy, and comfort in times of need. Honestly, nothing has changed since then.
Sadly, during my May vacation in the UK this year, no Chorusgirl gigs materialized. Perhaps when I am over in the spring of 2016, I'll get to the see the band perform. Until then, I have their self-titled debut LP on Fortuna POP! to look forward to on November 13th. And from what I've heard (all 10 tracks), it's quite great -- jam packed with hits. The lead track, 'Oh, To Be A Defector' is the perfect introduction to Chorusgirl. Get lost in it, check it out below.
