When I started Aimless Skylarking almost 2 years ago, I never imagined what it would become. Whatever it is has become, it's been incredibly rewarding, yet entirely taxing. I've met and spoken to so many incredible artists, many who are so humbled that someone would write about their art. But, keeping up a blog is a labor of love I wasn't quite prepared for. So, for the 1st time in Aimless Skylarking history, I've asked someone else to contribute to the website.
Friend of the blog, Dallas based folky rocker Claire Morales, has a new album out, Harmony in Hell. This time out, she teamed up with Daniel Markham for a collection of tracks she described as "things that creep us out". And since I have had a difficult time kick-starting the blog after taking a break this summer, I asked Claire for something fun. She's been so gracious to provide her tips for a smashing Halloween night. Usually, I just say beer, and stay away from too many Tootsie Rolls, but Claire expanded upon that. If you are in the Dallas area, go say hi to Claire and take her tips to heart.
Listen in to 'Lechuza' and take notes, Claire's tips are vital!
Claire's Tips for a Hearty and Happy Hallo-day Season:
1. Candy candy candy. It may seem obvious, but as we all move steadily closer to death, ever the more conscious of adultly health concerns, it's easy to forsake these little pleasures in favor of more nutritious fare. This is a mistake. A Halloween without proper amounts of candy is not a true hallo-day.
2. Get yourself a crazy wig. Trust me. What better way to zap yourself out of those fall-timey blues than to transform into someone entirely new?
3. Lay on the grass outside at midnight and listen to some Halloween music (ahem, wink) while gazing at the full moon through the tree leaves. Drink some red wine and pretend it's the blood of your enemies.
And my tip, just breathe. Live and love, life is short.
