Take an idea down, move on, and don't look back sounds like some sage advice from a self-help book. Shana Falana made that her mantra when she went into the studio to record her debut LP, Set Your Lightning Free. Years of making lo-fi bedroom recordings certainly helped in the idea department, but moving on and not looking back is where the proposition starts coming apart at its good intentioned seams. Sure, it all sounds great on paper, but lingering and fussing over, tweaking here and there until perfection is achieved is a common malady of many great ideas.
I'd argue that Shana's method worked. In just over a week, she and bandmate Mike Amari recorded the entire LP. Now she's offering up the first cut, 'Heavenstay', a gorgeous dream-pop track featuring fuzzed up shoegazing guitars, and bright soaring vocals. I'm intrigued, and anxious to hear the rest of the album after this first taste. Stream 'Heavenstay' along with me, it's my Song of the Day!
