We took a mini break this weekend from posting any content here at Aimless Skylarking. It was needed, maybe not deserved, but truth be told, it wasn't like we got in any skylarking. None at all, instead, we spent the time away doing administrative tasks such as tackling and sorting the out of control inbox, and organizing our unruly external music hard drive which has now exceeded 250gb of mp3's. What we didn't do was plan this week like we normally do on Sundays. So, we're going to wing it, but that's not a bad thing.
Today's Song of the Day comes from an artist we highlighted last October when she submitted two tracks for review. Back then, Wilmington, Delaware based artist Grace Vonderkuhn submitted 'God Bless Your Soul' and the since renamed track 'All Fucked Up and Nowhere to Go', and we took to her fuzzed up garage rock style. Her plan was to release an EP in December, but that was pushed back to late February when she released her debut self titled 5-track EP. In addition to the two songs we've already highlighted, Grace added three new tracks to round out the EP -- 'Saints with Death Wishes', 'Radio Silence', and 'Kaleidoscopes'. After a few weeks of listening time with the three new tracks, we've taken to the final track of the EP, 'Kaleidoscopes'. Sure, 'Saints with Death Wishes' is the hit here with its big hooks, sing along chorus, and overall brighter sound, but it's the contrasts of 'Kaleidoscopes' -- glimmers of dream pop vocals against the sludgy guitar grind -- that sets it apart for us. Join me in streaming 'Kaleidoscopes' below, it's our Song of the Day!
