This year's Aimless Skylarking vacation will be just like the previous two years, I'll be spending two weeks in the UK. But it will be different, instead of meeting up with my Cornish friend and his wife for a two week roadtrip of the country, I'll be spending the two weeks in London. That is, except for three days down south in Brighton for The Great Escape Festival. When I circled the dates on the calendar, the thought of a festival was the last thing to cross my mind. I'd hoped to catch a performance each night while in London, but was geeked when I heard of the festival. Plans were changed, accommodations sorted, and it was on the books.
Suffice to say, I'm overwhelmed by it all. But, I'm slowly building an itinerary for the 3 days. It doesn't help that I've never been to Brighton, and don't know the layout of the city, nor do I know the venues, or set times, or any of that. I'm just listing bands I want to see, and as schedules are announced, I can get my plans sorted out. One band I'm anxious to see is Brighton's very own, Black Honey. The 4-piece band has set the blog world afire the past few months, and I've been listening from afar. It's high time I jump into the fray with the band's latest track, 'Spinning Wheel'. It seems many of my blog siblings have described it as Tarantino-esque, and I agree with that assertion, it's every bit of that. There's definitely a sinister surf inspired, vintage feel to it all which I dig. The vocal freakouts set it apart though, they're legendary. I'm excited to hear the band at the festival, but I think the performance will be well attended. Judging by the blog buzz the band has garnered, the room is likely to be jam packed. Join me in streaming 'Spinning Wheel', it's my Song of the Day!
