It's taken me almost a month to recover from my UK vacation. I'm not complaining at all, was a fabulous 15 boozy music filled days I spent in the country, but, it left me behind on lots of things, not just this website. Now, Aimless Skylarking is caught up, relatively, but I've been overwhelmed by the amount of great submissions I've received in the past 2 months. Instead of going scorched earth on my inbox, bookmarks, and scraps of paper all over my desk, I've decided to share some of those submissions no matter how old. This time it's music from five labels. A few are new to Aimless Skylarking, and a few already have our trust.
A Lonely Ghost Burning -- Alt-Melodies compilation
Jamie from A Lonely Ghost Burning contacted me almost 2 months back, but the email got buried in my inbox in the weeks leading up to the vacation. A brief listen to a few of the tracks, I recognized a few band names, kept the email hanging around. And it's hard to pass up on a project focused on sharing and supporting underexposed new music. Isn't that why we are all here? To boot, it's a free download.
Human Sounds Records -- Modern Nomad
Joshua from Human Sounds Records out of Atlanta sent an email around the same time announcing the debut album from Maryland surf-rockers Modern Nomad. Give 'Show Me How' a listen below.
And since the email was sent, the label has added another band, Canadian psych-folk-surf-rockers Shadow Folk. The band's 5-track EP, Mystery Park, is available now.
Land Ski Records -- Murder Shoes
Drew from Land Ski Records emailed to introduce me to Minneapolis based surf-rockers Murder Shoes. The band's self titled 5-track EP is available now, and includes some Tarantino-esque vibes. It's a compelling listen.
Beautiful Strange - The Sinclair Sinclair
By offering up selections from Souvenir Stand, Big Wave, Fountains, Keebo, Tape Waves, and Hella Better Dancer, London based Beautiful Strange has become an Aimless Skylarking favorite. High quality vinyl and speedy shipping to the states is always a plus too. This time out, the label is offering The Sinclair Sinclair's debut album, Breaking The Waves, on white vinyl, limited to 300 copies. It's minimalistic, brooding and synthy, listen in below.
80N7 Records - Furnss
In a short time, 80N7 Records has become Aimless Skylarking's go to label for nascent indie rock artists. With two jam-packed cassette compilations, two cassette EPs, and quite possibly my favorite album of the year (Jake Rollins' Spend a Few, Make a Few) coming from the 80N7 offices, they're off to a hot start. Now they're dipping their toes in vinyl by offering Furnsss' new 4-track EP, New Moves, on limited edition 7 inch vinyl. 150 copies in all, don't be tardy!
