Instead of trying to review the close to 25 bands I saw at The Great Escape, I'll just share some photos I took. I took my pro camera, a Canon 5d Mark III with f2.8 24mm-70mm lens, on the vacation, but left it in the bag while dashing from gig to gig in Brighton. Instead of feeling entirely like work, I was able to concentrate on hearing the artists and bands I'd wanted to hear for so long. Without the heavy Canon burden, my camera of choice was a lightweight Sony NEX-5 mirrorless. In reasonably decent lighting conditions, in manual mode, I was able to coax a few decent photos out of the camera. And on a few occasions, all I had was my trusty iPhone 5s, which takes some pretty terrible photos in dark music venues. Here are a few of my favorites from the Sony.
