When I was thinking about Top Prospects for 2016, I instantly thought of Jake Rollins. His debut LP, Spend a Few, Make a Few, landed on my favorite albums of the year list, #2 to be exact. And several of the tracks were top favorites too. Yet, I almost excluded Jake because he had a full length to his name. I wanted the list to be for artists and bands with just a few songs available, maybe an EP or two, but no albums. That was somewhat the criteria last year, and was to be this year, but I tossed that thinking out the window.
Why did I toss it out the window? Well, Jake's debut LP was one of funnest guitar string bending albums I'd heard in years. It was cool, electric, and plain old bad ass. And it seemed so effortless. Now he's working on new material and if we can keep pestering him, he might just have to perform live. CMJ might be the perfect time to showcase that talent. Crank the amps up to 11, bend some strings, stomp on some pedals, and have a shitload of fun. What do you say, Jake?
