I never thought I would welcome back a Top Prospects of 2015 alumni for my 2016 edition, but here I am, talking about Tilly and her band Lazy Day again. But I don't mind, the one song she gave us last year, 'Portrait' was heartbreakingly beautiful, and it left me wanting more. Perhaps if Tilly had given us more than just that one song, maybe an EP of material, I might not be here singing her praises (total lie). We'd all know Tilly by now.
When I vacationed in England last May, the timing was right, and I was able to catch a magical Lazy Day performance. It was as great as I thought would be. What I didn't account for was how gracious Tilly and the band were. Off the top, lots of hugs and hellos from Tilly and the band, and that was just the start. Before the band's set at the iconic 100 Club opening for the Irish indie-pop band, Delorentos, a chair was brought in front of the stage for her grandmother. That might have been the coolest thing I've ever seen, and made me a bigger fan. Not to mention, I think most of her family and every friend showed up that night.
Tilly has hinted at some studio time last month with two new songs in the making, and I hope for more than that next year, perhaps an EP full of new material. Another Lazy Day performance next Spring when I return to London just might make me forget about all of that, for a few seconds anyway.
