Welsh trio The Joy Formidable have shared the video for 'Liana' from their latest LP, Hitch. As usual, another powerful statement from the band by directing the spotlight to the other inhabitants of this crazy world we live in. The human race is constantly encroaching on and destroying everything in our paths, Sumatran orangutans are losing their forests at an alarming rate and have become critically endangered because of us. One of my favorite authors, Terry Pratchett, was a champion of orangutans, and now one of my favorite bands has taken up the mantle. The band has this to say about orangutans and their involvement:
Earlier this year we saw a tweet by the naturalist and conservationist, Bill Oddie. It read: "So much forest has been wrecked that Orangutans have nothing to swing on. They sing: “Yes, we have no lianas.”
We have a song on our album, “Hitch” called “Liana,” and it struck us as such a sad coincidence as we looked up and read about the crisis that the Orangutan is facing. So, we decided we wanted to raise some money to protect these wonderful creatures.
100% of the profits on the items sold in our PledgeMusic store will go to the SOS (Sumatran Orangutan Society).
The band has set up a Pledge Music campaign with lots of great items -- artwork, music, handwritten lyrics, signed items, VIP concert experience, and even an acoustic house show. I will warn those interested in the house show, Matt will need adult supervision. Other than that, at $2000, a steal of a deal. As of this posting, only 2 acoustic house shows were available. For more information, visit the band's Pledge Music page.
