There was no Monday Mixtape this week, the weather this past weekend was far too beautiful to be indoors slogging through emails and listening to music. So here's Gerald with a peace offering, 7 great tracks for your mid-week blues. Listen, love, support!
Team Picture - CLASSIC:M
It took about 5 seconds into Team Picture's new track, 'CLASSIC:M',to know I loved it. The Leeds based outfit recently returned with the new track after a few months wait to follow up their barrel of fuzzy fun debut track, 'Birthday Blues'. There's no letting off the throttle for this band. Described as one part post-punk, two parts fuzz made by a group of polite individuals. More more more! Find 'CLASSIC:M' below.
Many Voices Speak - Away for All Time
A few weeks back I introduced you, constant reader, to Stockholm artist Matilda Mård who performs as Many Voices Speak. What initially struck me was Matilda's drop dead gorgeous voice, and delivery on 'Video Child'. Now she's offering up the title track to her debut EP, Away for All Time. One thing for sure, her voice melts me. The EP is out this Friday Hit City U.S.A. & Strangers Candy. Stream the track below.
Ali Holder - Ain't Enough To Go Around
Texan Ali Holder is back with a new track. Since stumbling over her music earlier this year, I've waited eagerly for new music from the talented artist. A mixed bag of influences has had an impact on her, Ali's voice lends itself well to her folky alt-country leanings. She's back with a new track, "Ain't Enough To Go Around", and I'm captivated. Stream it below.
Julianne Glass - Seventeen
Julianne Glass could play piano before she could walk. And after a family tragedy when she was 14 in which she lost her father and sister, she used music and her piano to survive the loss. Now, 19, Julianne is announcing her debut EP, Transparent. It's decidedly pop music, and I'm digging it. Find her debut, 'Seventeen', below.
Naomi Greene - No Skin
Naomi Greene had me at harp. See, I'm a sucker for the instrument. But then she had to really sink her hooks in me with her beautiful voice. I'm smitten. On her latest track, 'No Skin', she's crafted a compelling and exciting artistic statement with each and every measured movement. Bewitching. Find it below.
Bury the Wren - The One That Gets Away
Way back when the blog was new, and the inbox wasn't absolutely overflowing, I searched for great new music. Sometimes it was a new Twitter follower, or a post on another blog, or an organic discovery while mining Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Those moments are rare these days. Philly based alt-electronic two-piece Bury the Wren came across my radar a few weeks (might have been months) back and I scribbled their name on a piece of paper. Now, just getting around to listening to their EP, 2:15 to New Glory, and I'm quite taken by a few of the tracks. On 'The One That Gets Away', Erica Gibson had me when she sang "First, I can't live with ya/Second, I can't shoot you.". Find it below.
Duke Spirit - Serenade
London 4-piece Duke Spirit is back with a new EP, 'Serenade', out now via Red Essential, iTunes, and Spotify. Front woman Liela Moss says the EP is “a collection of songs that share the sense of running out of time to fix things, fix people - they are a tide slipping away from fingers…” Thematically linked works fascinate me, compel me to listen over and over to find meaning. Upon listening, I was immediately captivated by Liela's irresistibly exquisite yet sturdy voice. A spellbinding effort, time to explore those themes. Stream 'Serenade' below.
