After a week away from the offices of Aimless Skylarking, the submissions inbox was an absolute disaster. Mobbed I tell you. I've spent the weekend listening, reading, sorting, and haven't put an appreciable dent in the lot. While that is troubling, I am going to share 7 fantastic tracks I fell for this weekend. I hope they'll get your Monday off on the right foot. Enjoy!
According to Birmingham born, North London raised Harlea, she aimed to raise hell with her first offering. On 'Miss Me', she kicks the door down right from the word go, and doesn't let up. Hello, Harlea. Can we have more hell raising please? Listen in to 'Miss Me' below.
Succinct submission emails sometimes are the best. Hello, please listen, here is a link. That's just what She's a Spy singer Brenna Swanger did a few weeks back. She also wished me a good day. After a listen to the band's debut EP, I was quite taken by the buoyant 'Everything I Do'. You will be too, find it below.
Sometimes an email just gets buried in the inbox. That's what happened to an email about a new track from South London three-piece Sykes. I found myself revisiting the captivating track, enamored with its loveliness. It's decidedly pop, and it's time to share it. Find 'Glimmer' below.
Texan Jess Williamson's album, Heart Song, is set for a November 4th release on Brutal Honest. Returning to her home state has provided a abundance of material for her, but the return is not without complications. Home is safe, comfortable, not necessarily what an artist plumbing the depths of being needs. Stream the beautiful 'See You in a Dream' below.
Stockholm, Sweden's Matilda Mård performs as Many Voices Speak. I'll keep this short, her debut track 'Video Child' is beautiful. I have revisited it many times as it has gotten under my skin. Dream-pop with an expressive and gorgeous voice. Stunning. More please! Her official debut as Many Voices Speak with the Away for All Time EP out Oct. 28, 2016, on Hit City U.S.A. Check out 'Video Child' below.
I can't remember where I first heard Texas native Ali Holder, I believe it was back when I had the time to scour Soundcloud and Bandcamp for new material. I liked what I heard, her voice and folky country compositions stuck with me, so I wrote her name down on a scrap of paper and promptly let it get buried on my desk. Well, she's back with a haunting new track and it's time to share. Listen in to 'Death Reborn' below.
In my late teens, I spent a few months of life in Virginia. I was a long way away from home, and didn't connect with the place. I've since returned and found loveliness in the state. While working as an intern in the summer of 2009 and on return trips, Virginia stole the heart of artist Tanya Gallagher. It became a home away from home, teaching her love and loss. Her third album, Virginia, is out now. The title track is a pastoral folky masterpiece. Listen in below.
