One person who had a great 2016 has to be Australian alt-country artist Julia Jacklin. After being the talk of several festivals, South by Southwest and The Great Escape, and extensively touring Europe, UK, US and all points in between, she released her mesmerizing debut LP, Don't Let the Kids Win, this October to cap off her whirlwind year. For most of the album, Julia spins her wistful confessional tales with a gently strummed electric guitar, backed if at all by sparse accompaniment. It's a gorgeously constructed pensive coming of age album from an old soul; often sharp, sometimes witty, always composed.
