If you could, what would you say to your 15 year old self? Personally, I would meet my 15 year old self with a few knuckle sandwiches to start with, but that's a discussion for another day. Anna of the South London 5-piece, Heavy Heart, would be a great deal more kind and nurturing to her younger self by encouraging with a smile and a “keep going". I think we've all needed that in times of despair.
Anna also went on to say this about her school days and their new song:
"At some point you have to decide if you’re just going to spend your life looking in, or go away and do your own thing. That whole school experience set a fire in me - made me want to prove those people wrong, made me start a band, made me get better at writing songs. Made me.
You get so caught up in who’s cool, and who’s friends with who that it takes a while to see that most of those people are scrabbling for their own identity and status too. In the song the lyrics say, “I decided I was so bored of my enemies” - the day I first felt that was a kind of low-key epiphany!"
I'm happy 15 year old Anna kept going, and has since learned those valuable life lessons. If she had not, we all wouldn't have the gift that is Heavy Heart. Stream their latest track, 'What Became Of Laura R?' below.
