Cultural blindspots. We all have them, and one of mine is not ever really listening to Canadian artist Leonard Cohen. From what I have heard from others, his tales are unrivaled, featuring an enviable and economical sparkling clarity and brutal honesty. That said, I've not avoided Mr. Cohen, I've just not gotten around to him.
Yet I am not here to talk about Mr. Cohen, but a cover of his track, 'Suzanne'. Honestly, I don't feature remixes or covers here at Aimless Skylarking, because it's been done before. But, there is a but, there always is a but, it needs to take on a different life. It needs to become the artists's own. And this time out, Aimless Skylarking favorite and vocal chameleon Claire Morales teams up with another DFW artist, Rachel Gollay to present a fresh new take on Leonard's 'Suzanne'. This is my introduction to Rachel Gollay, and I'm going to thank Claire for the intro because I'm entirely enchanted by Rachel's voice.
Claire and Rachel have turned in an entirely haunting take, it's painfully gorgeous. Stream 'Suzanne' below.
