London 5-piece Heavy Heart are back with a new track in their "Song-a-Month" project. So far, the band has held true to their promise of offering up one new track a month. It's a novel approach, mainly because it keeps the band fresh on everyone's mind. But it's also a monumental feat for a band who all have day jobs outside of Heavy Heart, plus they're doing it all by themselves.
Given that, none of the tracks have felt rushed. Sonically, all 5 so far are indie pop/rock gems, yet it's Anna Vincent's acute lyrics and careful observations behind each song that stun. It's as if we've found Anna's late teen diary, documenting struggles, observing, learning, growing, fighting back, breaking down, giving in, giving up, coming back and carrying on. We're gripped because the sentiment resonates loudly with us. However, when revisiting, even time and distance can't make us totally inviolate, still it stings us as adults. We just aren't that far removed from those days. We might never be.
For May, the band has gifted us with 'Pretty Thing'. After many listens, it's become my favorite of the "Song-a-Month" tracks. I love how Anna's dreamy vocal stylings contrast the growling guitars as the track builds, but watch out, Anna serves up a healthy dose of venom for the unsuspecting. Find 'Pretty Thing' below.
