My 4th performance of this year's Secret Stages Music Discovery Festival was Richmond, Virginia's Sleepwalkers on the Main Stage. I don't have fond memories of Richmond. See, many years back, I went there to see about a girl, but unlike Good Will Hunting's Will, it didn't quite work out for me. But all was not lost, it turned out to be of those unanswered prayer kinda things that worked out well in the end. Anyway, so much of the gory life details. Nowadays, I'd love to visit the city to see an Aimless Skylarking favorite band, Avers, perform. I can now add Richmond's very own Sleepwalkers to that list.
Sleepwalkers ooze 70's rock and roll. Funky, keys, big riffs, and lots of soul. And, they look like they're having the absolute time of their life up on stage. Sadly, I didn't see one cut-off tee, bell bottoms, or a pair dope smokers (hush puppies for those old enough to remember the proper name) in the crowd. Moving on, I'm smitten with their sound, the band's debut LP Greenwood Shade is a strong effort front to back. The opener, 'Cheers' just might be the perfect introduction to the band. I know it was for me. Enjoy 'Cheers' and 'Run Right Back' below along with my photos from their performance.
