When in the UK earlier this year, I caught two Julia Jacklin performances at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton. It would have been 3 performances had the Haunt had it together, but the band walked off the stage because nobody could hear Julia sing. The next day, I heard they sorted it out and Julia and band returned for a few songs. I didn't stick around because I had a date with a greasy Kebab on Brighton's rocky beach after a day of lots of shows and far too many adult beverages. The next morning, I knew I made the wrong decision.
Anyway, while I have loved the 1st two tracks from her debut LP, Don't Let the Kids Win, ('Leadlight' and 'Pool Party') 'Coming of Age' stunned me live and I couldn't wait to hear it again. Many others I spoke with said it was their favorite of the show too. Julia is touring the UK and Europe right now, with a return to the US in mid-September. Sadly, she's not coming anywhere near my home in Alabama on this pass through the civilized world. But, we have a feeling she's not done with the States, and we'll being seeing Julia again soon. Don't Let the Kids Win is out October 7th. Stream 'Coming of Age' below. And then stream it again because it is so damn good.
