Curse of Lono - He Takes My Place
Breakups cause all sorts of introspection. They always do, sometimes it takes years to process and put it in the past. And some never recover. When Felix Bechtolsheimer felt British roots pioneers Hey Negrita had run its course, he stepped away. He then went on to form Curse of Lono, effectively moving on. The band's debut 4-track EP is out October 14th on Submarine Cat Records (we love cats), with a full LP following early next year. 'He Takes My Place' certainly could hit close to home for many, it's powerful and downright lovely. After multiple listens, I'm haunted by its message, the sentiment and truth rings absolutely clear. Find it below.
FEELS - Roadkill
Helsinki-based electro-pop group describe their music as epic, gripping and toned with northern melancholy. And it's every bit of that. We're not huge fans of electro-pop, but gave the band a long listen, and found that 'Roadkill' sparkles. Give it a listen below.
Scarlett Saunders - Circus
Painting on foraged wood and then spending twelve hours a day in acting school should leave little time for much else. But somehow, Scarlett Saunders finds time to squeeze out what remains of her creativity into her music. As a child with no TV or games to entertain, she sang and read. That lifelong love bleeds through in her art. Scarlett's debut EP Blue Again is out now. We found most of it haunting and ethereal, find 'Circus' below.
Gretta Ray - Drive
18-year-old Melbourne, Australia based Gretta Ray has a voice that belies her age. While her earlier folky output was good, 'Drive' expands on that sound. And with her knee-buckling voice, the real star of the show, she'll be a force for years. Find 'Drive' below.
Trash - Give Up
One band I've not been able to get enough of, Trash. Yep, you read that right, a band named Trash. In all their social media pics they look like they're having so much fun. And they make these wonderful slices of indie pop music. Soaring vocals and noisy guitars, what's not to like? Sounds like takeout pizza and cheap beer on a Friday night. Find 'Give Up' below.
