My last performance and 8th overall at this year's Secret Stages Music Discovery Festival was at Matthew's Bar and Grill for New Orleans based avant-pop 2-piece Caddywhompus. The band's set was everything I'd hoped it would be, frenzied and fun. Toss in a bit of finger tapping by Chris Rehm and otherworldly frenetic drumming by Sean Hart to put the band's performance in the stunning category. I cannot wait to see these guys again, seriously. Check out 'Weight' below as well as my pics from the performance.
Weekend after next, I'll be in Birmingham, Alabama for the Secret Stages Music Discovery Festival. I attended in 2014 and discovered several Aimless Skylarking favorites such as Adia Victoria, And the Echo, The Debauchees, and Memphis Dawls. Last year's lineup was stellar as well, featuring blog favorites such as White Reaper, Raindeer, Brass Bed, Dot.s, Eleven Year Old, Captain Kudzu, Holy Youth, Twin Limb, and Velouria. While I love The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, England because of the sheer amount of "new" music available from artists and bands all over the world, it's thousands of miles away. Secret Stages is in my own backyard with a barely over an hour drive standing in between Huntsville and Birmingham. And I believe Secret Stages could be on a similar trajectory of The Great Escape.
This year, I've done a bit of planning and have selected a handful of acts I definitely want to see, with more to come later in the week.
