After featuring Swedish electro-punk rockers Dolores Haze here a few times, I was excited to see them on the bill at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. The band lived up to that excitement with a raucous and unhinged performance at The Green Door Store. The venue was mobbed and far too damn hot and in between pints (to stay hydrated), I managed to snap a few photos of the band. Find my favorite Haze song below and continue scrolling to see the remainder of my photos of their performance.
30. Dolores Haze - I Got My Gun
Swedish quartet offer up a noisy electronic banger that's not shy on punk energy, there's plenty of that to go around, and is what makes the song so incredible.
29. Torres - Cowboy Guilt
Southerner Mackenzie Scott offers up a deliciously askew track, my favorite on her latest LP. Sadly, I missed her when she passed through Nashville.
28. Whorish Boorish - Luckiest Girl
Miami's Rebecca Lima stopped me in my tracks with this contemplative lo-fi track, months later, it still does. With each listen, loveliness builds.
27. Miya Folick - I Got Drunk
Los Angeles artist Miya Folick gets to the heart of the matter directly with “I guess I’ll write you a love song/because I got drunk/ and told you how I really feel about you”. Miya's warbling vocals mesmerized me, this is so much more than booze as liquid courage.
26. Farao - Hunter
Norwegian born London based artist Kari Jahnsen's stunningly gorgeous voice enchanted me on the first listen. Several times through the album, and I've found a impeccably composed debut album. Brimming with confidence, and bold songwriting, 'Hunter' is the North Star in an album full of shining stars.
25. Peaness - No-One
Welsh trio's entirely charming bit of indie-pop band caught my ear with their infectious head bobbing fun. 'No-one' races out of the gates at a breakneck pace and begs to replayed, often.
24. Sasha Siem - So Polite
Gloriously mad, and elegant and graceful, yet playful and maybe bordering on unhinged. Sasha's vocal delivery is damn lovely, and dangerous. Live, it's just as great.
23. Estrons - Make a Man
Welsh indie rocking 4-piece keep getting better with each new track. Belting out bar room rockers is a tough gig with so much competition, but Estrons are up to the task. Fresh rowdy sing-alongs seems to be the band's modus operandi.
22. Two White Cranes - Resilience
Roxy Brennan crafts music that creeps up on you. Upon 1st listen, it's not an instant love, but it lingers and haunts. Like a difficult novel, you can't quite figure out. I find myself revisiting her stunning tales often.
21. Martha Ffion - No Applause
Charming and playful, Irish born artist Martha Ffion astounded me with her breathtaking voice. So damn lovely. Next year at this time, I'll kick myself for making this song #21 when Martha rules the world.
Earlier this year, Swedish punk quartet released 'I Got My Gun' and I featured the noisy electronic track as my Song of the Day. I loved the energy, and the refreshing attitude, not to mention that it was a fantastic song. Now, the band is back with a new EP and another single. This time, the band offers up the angry punk rocker, 'The Haze'. The track is the lead single from their just recently released Accidental EP on Woah Dad! Records. And it seems the band is taking their act on the road, they are set to play the End of the Road and Latitude festivals in the UK this summer, more dates will be announced later. Join me in streaming 'The Haze', it's my Song of the Day!
Apparently Nabokov's Lolita inspired more than just Gordon Sumner. Swedish band, Dolores Haze, took their name from the famed work, and was the reason why their submission in a sea of inbox chaos stood out to me. However, the band is more than just a recognizable name, they're backing it up with attitude drenched infectious tunes. Of the band's two tracks on Soundcloud, the older track, 'The Haze' is a guitar driven angry punk rocker, while the submitted track, 'I Got My Gun' is a noisy electronic banger. But it's not shy on punk energy, there's plenty of that to go around, and is what makes the song so incredible. I find myself listening over and over, 5 times as I write this, and I'm not finishing obsessing over it. Join me and stream 'I Got My Gun' below, it's my Song of the Day!
