Ripsy May - When in Love
UK artist Ripsy May sings, writes, produces, and creates all her own visual content. And what she's serving up is stunning, certainly a star on the rise. After hearing her debut track, 'Black Wine', I was left clamoring for more. Find her new single, 'When in Love', below. More more more!
Undo - Hollow Hands
Glasgow's Great Cop had me awash with all sorts of nostalgia way back in 2014 with the sheer immediacy of their rough and tumble track 'Vacancy'. It was borderline unhinged punk, the best kind, but it packed some lyrical heft, and lately I wondered what happened to the band. Now they're back under a new moniker, Undo, and a bit more polished sound. That dyed in the wool piss and vinegar punk attitude is still there though. 'Hollow Hands' is from the Undo/Jutland Songs split out August 26th 2016. Listen in below.
Ofelia K - Killing Me
Sometimes when listening to a submission, I really love the song, but know it just doesn't fit with the rest of the tracks here at Aimless Skylarking. Lots of indie rock and the like here, but I am a sucker for a great pop song. Ofelia K's 'Killing Me' is one such example. With each listen, I keep pressing play again, over and over. Such a beautiful voice and vocal delivery. It's perfect pop music by a soon to be star. With close to 50k Soundcloud plays, many more feel the same way. Check it out below.
Old Sault - Sail Home
If you haven't had an existential crisis, you aren't alive. But turning that turmoil into something beautiful is no easy task. Gold Coast artist Old Sault aka Angie Farr turned her crisis into the compelling beauty that is 'Sail Home'. Never did getting into a shitty inflatable boat and start rowing to your dreams sound so impressive.
Me You and Thomas - Winning Again
Bristol, UK based 2-piece band Me, You and Thomas caught me off guard in early 2015 with their track 'Bleak Future'. Lo-fi indie pop with a bit of piano caused me to fall head over heels. Months later, I included it in my favorite songs of the year list. Now, they're back with the low key acoustic 'Winning Again'. It's flat out gorgeous. Listen below.
Anna Zed - Burn Me Down
Greek English artist Anna Zed has been buried in the Aimless Skylarking inbox for months. It's been a BUSY summer! But I hung on to her emails, listened when I could, wrote her name on scraps of paper all over the desk. She released her compelling eponymous debut EP in June, and I've just had a longer listen. Let's drag this out into the light now, because wow. Find 'Burn Me Down' below.
Exam Season - A Petty Song
Growing up is a tough business. When I was a teen, I thought there was a defining moment when I became an adult. As if I crossed some special line. But it wasn't like that. I found I'm essentially the same person I was when I was 18, I just now have a several years experience. Ed of Exam Season returned from university to unemployment, and turned introspective about the progression from childhood to teenager to adult. Timeless themes. Listen in to 'A Petty Song' below.
